Tree trimming can be a great and profitable business to run, but how do you get new customers? If you’re just starting out in the business, you might feel overwhelmed with how much competition you’re up against. Trust me, this is normal. When you start any business the name of the game is getting new customers and I’ve tried just about every route you could possibly think of when it comes to customer acquisition. I wanted to write this article to give you a good idea of what worked and what didn’t.
Before I go into detail about what works, I’d like to talk to you about some epic fails in my experience when it came to marketing my business. I know it might be tempting to print about 1,000 flyers than go ahead and tie them to a bag of rocks and throw them on potential customers driveways, but don’t do it. The cost of printing 1,000 flyers is going to be about $2,000. This might seem expensive but once you have someone design the flyer, print it, and them laser cut them, the price adds up in a hurry. If you decided to pay a company to go ahead and mail these out to potential customers in your area, your bill is just going to keep on getting higher and higher. Obviously the more you do the yourself the less you’ll pay, but who has time for all that? If you’re thinking about putting an advertisement in a magazine or in the yellow pages, don’t do that either. This was the biggest waste of money I ever encountered because I spent hundreds of dollars on putting advertisements out only to get zero phone calls into my business. After everything is said and done, the point of running any advertising or marketing campaign is to get your phone ringing off the hook. When you send your flyer out to someone, only 3 out of 100 people are going to actually need what you’re offering. When your ad gets placed in front of one of those people, it’s important to make sure you’re flyer is made so well that these people jump to action and call you right away. If they put their flyer in the “drawer of death” where it will never be seen again until they’re moving out of their house and throwing away old crap, you’re never going to get them as a customer.
You’re probably disgusted because I just slammed every single way you were planning on marketing your business, but don’t worry! There’s light at the end of the tunnel. What if instead of trying to jam your companies information down peoples throats, you were only getting customers that were actively searching for tree trimming services? What if people were calling your phone because they found you? What if you had a steady stream of phone calls coming into your business of qualified customers everyday? This is exactly what happens on the internet and search engines everyday. People, right now, are in your area and searching for a company that provides tree trimming services. I promise! What if your company was on top of the search results and they were calling you on the regular? I’ll explain to you exactly how to do this in my next article. Until then, save yourself the time, money, and frustration of trying any sort of outbound marketing. I know you’re eager to make money so I promise to have my next post up about internet marketing as soon as possible!
